Enjoying Hiking
Staying active as you age offers a healthier life that will last longer. Health is important regardless of age, and many young adults want to stay in shape. Both young and old can enjoy certain fun activities that are also considered exercise. Hiking is the one sport or activity that anyone in basic shape can participate in and have fun. It requires very little fitness for easy trails, and you get to be outside in some beautiful country. For those who are older and retired, hiking in the national parks across America is a great way to see nature up close and personal.
Hiking in itself is an excellent way to get a cardiovascular workout. Remember to always get a check up from a doctor before beginning any type of physical activity, including hiking. The goal is to get outside and enjoy the scenery and get a decent workout at the same time. Nobody wants to plan a hiking trip to somewhere far away and then not be able to enjoy being there because you aren’t fit enough to take on the task. Before leaving, start walking in the neighborhood to build endurance and make each walk a little longer than the day before.
Day Hiking
Many people don’t want to plan a trip to a far away place. Instead, they would rather take some daily trips closer to home. This is easier to plan and can be done without spending much money. Even when taking a day trip, be sure to talk to a doctor before beginning. Once you have the okay from your doctor, you can begin walking around your neighborhood. Once you are confident that you are in good enough shape to tackle a more challenging walking experience, you can plan a day hike. At first, you should plan light hikes with short distances on level terrain. It is okay to vary the time and distance of each trip once you are comfortable with going farther while walking across more difficult terrain.
Hiking can become a passion once you get out on a trail and the sounds of the city are replaced by the sounds of Mother Nature. Hiking can also be therapeutic, because all of the things that stress you on a daily basis will slip away while walking. The body feels the difference, and the feeling that can come over you can be very addicting. It makes the body want more serenity and peace. It allows the body to lower blood pressure and become tuned in to the hike. This activity is good for everyone in mind, body and spirit.
